612 programming subteam educating members with a variety of coding projects.
CHANTILLY, VA, SEPTEMBER 30TH, 2024. The programming subteam of Chantilly Robotics has been typing up a storm with a variety of educational projects in the programming subteam, such as integrating a new gyroscope mechanism and training members on Romi robots.
A small cohort of up-and-coming programmers began to work on what they affectionately call the “pigeon”. “It’s like a gyroscope,” Srikar said. “It measures roll, pitch, and yaw but it’s simple and easy to work on.”
In addition to the pigeon, CTO Tyler Thach was found teaching electrical subteam member Victor Moldoveanu how to code a program for the Romi, a robot used for teaching new members basic movement. “We use Java to teach the new members how to make the Romi drive around,” said Tyler. Educating these vital skills early within members of not just the required subteam, but also all of 612 will help them to streamline the robot’s construction for the upcoming build season by facilitating proper collaboration.
The skills learnt here in 612, whether it be working on a Romi or integrating a mechanism to measure the relative position of the future competition robot, infuse vital problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking skills in the members for use in the world of STEM and beyond.
Team 612 would not be able to plan and offer such diverse outreach opportunities to promote STEM in our community. For Team 612 to continue providing opportunities to the next generation of STEM innovators, they need continued support from sponsors.
