Overview: Team 612 revamps its team structure for the 2025-2026 season
CHANTILLY, VA, APRIL 7TH, 2025. Chantilly Robotics held a meeting today to highlight plans for finding passion in next year’s robotics team by shrinking the number of members and tearing down the walls separating 612’s subteams. The mentors and current leadership then led a follow-up meeting with current Chantilly juniors to discuss next year’s changes to 612’s leadership and their duties in leading a new, reorganized team.
At the start of today’s meeting, leadership highlighted key issues currently facing the team, including how members who pay the fees to join the team but don’t share 612’s passion for playing the game. This includes members who pay the fees but never show up, and members who show up but never contribute to 612’s daily workload. To solve this issue, the team plans to have an open fall season – allowing for people to figure out whether or not they have an interest in robotics. Towards the end of the fall season, next year’s leadership will work together to choose members that show passion, whether it be through an application or interviews. Another issue facing the team is the dependence of any member on other 612 subteams to complete simple tasks. To solve this, 612 members will learn the basic technical skills of other subteams next fall, so that members of one subteam won’t need to pull aside members from another subteam to complete quick tasks.
After presenting the plan to reorganize the team, mentors and leadership held a follow-up meeting with juniors that have the potential to become future leadership to discuss changes in leadership structure and future duties of next year’s leadership. 612’s mentors and leadership decided to combine the roles of Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Financial Officer into one role: Chief Business Officer (CBO). Next year’s CBO must take on the team’s business functions, including ordering parts and marketing the team, as well as handling the team’s logistics. In addition, the Chief Operations Officer’s duties of coordinating the build effort between all the subteams have been combined with the Chief Technical Officer.
Team 612 plans to improve next year’s workforce through a focus on technical education during the fall season. The core of 612’s workforce will learn important skills that extend beyond the subteams they’re already in. With the rebuilding of 612’s foundation, the team takes its next steps into improving the team’s skills for the better.
