SEPTEMBER 17, 2024, CHANTILLY, VA. As school picked up pace, Chantilly Robotics Team 612 continued to enrich the community, this time in the form of Chantilly High School’s annual Homecoming Parade on September 13th.
Team 612 provided a float to the event, spreading the love of STEM throughout the Chantilly community. Ben Crown, a co-captain of the mechanical subteam, organized the club’s participation in the popular community tradition. Fellow co-captain Ayush Agarwal planned the construction of the team’s float. Covered with banners of the team’s colors, the float revealed itself with banners and balloons while several members trailed behind with pom-poms. “I screamed until I lost my voice,” said Agurwal, referring to the team’s iconic chants. “Everyone was having such a good time throwing candy to the kids.”
“The kids were ecstatic to get candy,” said Kyungwon Lee, a senior at the parade. “We ran out of candy after about ten minutes and had to shout our SIX WHAT? chants instead.” Kyungwon was also a part of the workforce that made the parade float, seeking to spread the joy of problem solving and teamwork.
Overall, the homecoming parade was a great way to celebrate the kickoff of the new school year and allow for team bonding in a public community event. It was also a way to spread the name of Chantilly Robotics out to the greater Chantilly Pyramid, from the design of the float to their righteous spirit, all helping to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders. Now, 612 looks to the future in other lighthearted community events like Taste of Chantilly and a local 612 coding education camp.
