CHANTILLY, VA, DECEMBER 4TH, 2024. Team 612, Chantilly Robotics, is thrilled to share its impactful experience at the Defense Manufacturing Conference (DMC) in Austin, Texas. The event provided an incredible platform for Team 612 to engage with leaders in bioengineering, design, and manufacturing, while promoting the mission of FIRST Robotics to a wide audience.

A standout moment of the conference was when Sholoka Bana, a speaker from Team 612, delivered a compelling presentation in the grand ballroom to representatives from leading defense and manufacturing companies, including Lockheed Martin, BioFabUSA, and Boeing. Her speech highlighted the transformative role of robotics education in shaping the future of innovation and workforce development. Throughout the conference, Team 612 connected with local Texas teams such as Team 8886 Saber Robotics and Team 2158 AusTIN CANs, organizing scrimmages that showcased the ingenuity and teamwork of FIRST Robotics participants. The team also engaged with many FIRST alumni now working in the industry, strengthening the bonds between education and professional engineering.

"It was inspiring to put the spotlight on other teams and watch them share their unique contributions to STEM," said Shalom Abebe. A highlight of the trip was meeting Dr. Ericsson, a prominent figure at the conference, and discussing the importance of robotics education. Chantilly Robotics also explored the diverse fields of science and engineering represented at DMC, learning about advancements such as 3D printing on unconventional materials. Beyond personal and team takeaways, Team 612 made an impact by sharing FIRST’s mission at the pits and booths. "The conference was a fantastic opportunity to promote FIRST and learn from industry professionals," said Srikar Akundi. "Though the event was packed, it ran smoothly, and we’re proud to have been part of it."
