Overview: Team 612 is testing a 270-degree intake system for efficient game piece collection and scoring.
CHANTILLY, VA, FEBRUARY 8TH, 2025. Team 612, Chantilly Robotics, is developing a primary intake system designed for efficient collection and placement of game pieces in the Reefscape contest. Mounted on the front of the robot, the mechanism features a wrist-like movement that operates in two directions, allowing for controlled and precise intake and scoring.
The system uses wheels to intake the coral and accurately place it onto the reef, which is a way to score points at levels 1 through 3. The overall design draws inspiration from 612's robot from two years ago and a Ri3d robot, featuring an intake system that pulls in an object on one side of the box, and releases it from the other. Its movement freedom of 270 degrees enhances flexibility, ensuring smooth transitions between picking up and depositing game pieces. With quick intake speed and accurate placement, this mechanism plays a crucial role in the team’s overall match strategy.
“Our intake system is designed for consistency and adaptability, giving us control over how and where we place game pieces,” said Rohan Punnoose. “We’re focused on refining its efficiency to ensure reliable performance in competition.”
Team 612 is currently in the testing and refinement phase, as prototyping is finished, fine-tuning the mechanism’s responsiveness and durability. The team aims to enhance its speed, reliability, and precision to maximize scoring potential during matches as development continues on the final project.
