Team 612’s Teaching Leads
Chantilly, Virginia — November 17th, 2025. In fall Chantilly Robotics teaches to new members essential skills needed for their subteam in a low-stress environment. The team fixed this with teaching leads who are responsible for teaching new or returning members the specifics of the necessary knowledge for their subteam. Therefore, members can help during the build season with the background knowledge learned making sure Chantilly robotics big team is all working as a unified front as the season goes on.
Team 612 is structured in a way that mimics the real world, with leadership leading the team, followed by captains, and then teaching leads. In addition, teaching leads are responsible for keeping communication running smoothly between themselves and the captains of 612. This means they ask captains what is needed in addition to what should be taught during that meeting. This makes them fully responsible for teaching members in addition to answering any question that may pop up.
Currently, Roy, one of the mechanical teaching leads, is educating new members of the newly designed mechanical shelf inside the shop. This is not only beneficial since the “mechanical storage system needed an upgrade”, and it also teaches “the new members how to better design structures in cad on onshape”. Roy continued by saying this will improve on their woodworking skills on the machines in the shop, said Roy.
Another one of the mechanical teaching leads is instructing electrical members on the basics of cad to make a mount for their limit switches. This is important to let the electrical members see how to fit their limit switches on different mounts allowing for the switches to be adjusted.
