Team 612 Enhances Robot Vision

Overview: Chantilly Robotics now uses a vision system to detect AprilTags, enabling precise navigation and strategic adjustments.

CHANTILLY, VA, FEBRUARY 1ST, 2025. Team 612, Chantilly Robotics, is advancing its robot’s capabilities with a vision system that utilizes cameras to detect AprilTags and determine precise positioning on the field. This technology enhances the team’s mecanum chassis, allowing for accurate movement, improved navigation, and real-time strategic adjustments during matches.

By leveraging the vision system, the robot can autonomously perceive its surroundings in both the autonomous and teleoperated periods. This system provides a critical advantage in game scenarios with limited driver visibility, allowing the robot to react dynamically to field conditions without relying solely on manual control.

“Our vision system essentially acts as the robot’s eyes, allowing it to recognize key field elements and adjust its movements with precision,” said Srikar Akundi, programming member and design team lead. “This will significantly enhance our ability to execute complex maneuvers and adapt to changing game situations.”
