Overview: Team 612 quickly resolves minor error, preventing setbacks and further delays to the build schedule.
CHANTILLY, VA, FEBRUARY 22ND, 2025. Team 612 recently held an emergency meeting to address a critical mechanical issue that disrupted the team's build schedule. The setback arose when the elevator mounting rails were drilled incorrectly, requiring immediate reconstruction to ensure progress could continue as planned.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the mechanical subteam worked swiftly to fix the error on the same day, ensuring that the electrical subteam would have the robot ready for wiring during the upcoming Saturday meeting. The quick response prevented further delays and allowed the team to maintain its build timeline.
Beyond correcting the elevator rails, the emergency meeting provided an opportunity to consider mounting all major subsystems together, including the elevator, climb mechanism, and belly pan for battery placement. This step was crucial in finalizing the overall layout of components, ensuring optimal functionality and accessibility for the robot’s final assembly.
"This meeting was a turning point in our build process," said Francis Navaro Lim, a mechanical team member. "It wasn’t ideal to have an error, but we adapted quickly and used the time to refine our design and integration."
By tackling the issue head-on, Team 612 demonstrated its problem-solving capabilities and ability to collaborate under pressure. With the mechanical adjustments completed, the team is now on track to finalize wiring and testing, keeping its focus on a fully operational robot for the upcoming competition season.
