Overview: Team 612’s scouting website transforms alliance-building by providing a centralized hub for teams to share and access crucial competition data.
CHANTILLY, VA, MARCH 10TH, 2025. In order to find essential information about other competition teams, FIRST competitors head from team to team asking questions – a process known as Scouting. Programming’s website allows FIRST teams to discover information about other teams and form strong alliances.
During competition, FIRST Robotics teams need a way to find out how other teams perform. 612 solves this problem by creating the 612 Scouting Website, a hub for any team to share and find data about any team’s competition robots. The website supports two different methods of scouting: Pit Scouting and Stand Scouting. Pit Scouting is a method by which teams head around to other team’s pits and look at their robots. Teams ask general questions about other teams’ robots to find out information that can be shared on the website. Stand Scouting happens while teams compete during the competition round. Teams take notes about how other teams perform during competition and share out on 612’s website, where any FIRST team can find out crucial information about any team’s performance.
Team 612’s scouting website plays a crucial part in helping teams form alliances. During the qualification round, all teams compete with each other to become alliance captains – competition leaders who choose other teams to form alliances for the upcoming parts of the competition. To form an effective alliance, teams must know how well other teams perform, and 612’s website gives all teams this crucial information. Teams interact with the website to get or share information about any team they need, using 612’s website to the benefit of their team.
612’s Scouting website represents the core values of FIRST robotics: Discovery, Innovation, Impact, Inclusion, Teamwork, and Fun. Through the website, 612 welcomes teams to discover how other teams design their robot. This website innovates the way that teams share and find team information. 612’s Programming team used their coding skills to develop an effective website in order to impact the grand FIRST robotics community. Programming’s site doesn’t give advantages over any other team, showing inclusiveness to everyone. This site facilitates the formation of alliances, supporting teamwork around the competition. Most importantly, Enjoying helping teams at competition form their alliances, Team 612 paves the way knowing that they created an impactful website that helps the greater FIRST community.
