Team 612 reflects on their successful outreach events during preseason
In order to celebrate the end of a successful preseason, the team is hosting a winter party
DECEMBER 1, 2021, CHANTILLY, VA. Chantilly Robotics FRC Team 612 will be completing an excellent 2021 preseason by this January with each subteam helping newcomers learn their subteam specific knowledge in order to march into the build season.
In order to create a positive impact on our community, Team 612 participated in the Chantilly Homecoming Parade, which stretched from the Greenbriar Shopping Centre to Greenbriar West Elementary School. As we paraded through the streets, students confidently held up our banner and tossed candy to children on the sidewalks. Additionally, volunteers from Team 612 participated in the Air and Scare Event at the Udvar-Hazy Centre, a branch of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, on October 30th, 2021. At the event, we demonstrated our robot, handed out candy to the trick-or-treaters, and conversed with parents about FIRST and ways their children can get involved in robotics.
In addition to outreach events, our own members are also gaining a strong foundation in the STEM field themselves. By utilizing a ‘students teach students’ method, the captains and leads of the four sub teams are helping the new members learn the skills for their subteam in order to be ready for the upcoming build season. Currently, mechanical members are learning how to plan, design, and build a drivetrain so that they can create a successful robot later on. Meanwhile, programming members are learning a variety of fundamental programming skills such as coding the robot's drive train, autonomous routines, and vision by using Romi robots. In the electrical subteam, members are practicing pneumatics, building electrical boards, and strategizing for build season. Lastly, marketing members strengthened public relations skills by practicing writing and website development, as well as learning to use various softwares, such as Krita and Canva, to create a hand drawn animation for the FIRST Safety Animation award.
To wrap up our productive preseason, the team is planning a holiday party for the week before Winter Break in order to provide a fun and relaxing experience for our members while also encouraging the different subteams to bond. We thank all of our members for all their effort during preseason as we dive into build season!
Without the support of sponsors like you, Team 612 would not be able to plan and offer such diverse outreach opportunities to promote STEM in our community. For Team 612 to continue providing opportunities to the next generation of STEM innovators, they need continued support from sponsors.
