Overview: Team 612 develops an innovative design for the climb mechanism
CHANTILLY, VA, FEBRUARY 1ST, 2025. Team 612, Chantilly Robotics, is pushing the development of its specialty slant climb mechanism for this year’s FIRST Robotics Competition. Designed for the high-stakes endgame challenge, this system aims to lift the robot off the ground and secure it mid-air onto the deep cage, demonstrating both precision and reliability.
The climb mechanism operates by grappling onto a deep cage connected to a chain-like structure, allowing the robot to suspend itself without touching the floor. The slanted construction provides a stable approach, ensuring a secure grip while minimizing the risk of failure. Once engaged, the robot will hold its position in mid-air, completing the climb and maximizing points during the final moments of the match.
Currently, Team 612 is in the foundational design phase, utilizing foam cutouts to prototype the grappling system. This approach allows the team to refine key aspects of the mechanism before transitioning to full-scale fabrication. As development progresses, the team remains focused on optimizing efficiency, durability, and execution to create a climb system that will give them a competitive edge.
With testing and refinement underway, Team 612 continues to push forward, blending creativity and precision to bring its climb system to life. Stay tuned as the team moves from concept to competition-ready execution in the weeks ahead.
