Overview: FRC 612 announces the completion of a newly designed chassis, focusing on improved efficiency and reliability.
CHANTILLY, VA, JANUARY 25TH, 2025. Chantilly Robotics is excited to announce the completion of the development of their new chassis. The Mechanical Subteam has enhanced the chassis' efficiency through the integration of new parts and innovative design adaptations.
Building on lessons learned from last year's design, the Mechanical Subteam has focused on creating a more effective and reliable chassis. “Last year, we used swerve wheels. While they were faster, they were also difficult to work with,” said Ayush, a captain of the Mechanical Subteam. In response, the team has transitioned to the use of more reliable mecanum wheels, which offer improved stability at the cost of speed.
Another key improvement involves the chassis’ structural components. In the previous year’s design, the use of 80/20 beams presented challenges, particularly when it came to mounting electrical components. This limitation forced the Electrical Subteam to work around the beams, creating complications and inefficiencies in the overall design. This year, the team has restructured the frame to eliminate those constraints, allowing for smoother integration of electrical components and optimizing the overall performance of the robot.
With these advancements, Chantilly Robotics is confident that their new chassis will provide a more robust foundation for the team’s robot in the upcoming season.
