Overview: Chantilly 612 announces new leadership

CHANTILLY, VA, APRIL 28th, 2025. After a rigorous selection process, Chantilly Robotics announces the team’s leadership for the 2025-26 season. Because the team is shifting to a smaller, more dedicated group of members, new leadership faces challenges in educating newer members about essential 612 skills.

Thirteen rising Chantilly seniors applying for leadership went through a two-round selection process to compete for the team’s limited leadership spots. During the first round, applicants wrote a character essay about their experience in 612 and why their part in leadership would help the team. In the second round leadership and mentors conducted interviews, where they asked applicants about their goals for future leadership and what they would do to improve the team. Once the interviews concluded, leadership and mentors discussed for 2 days about the best members to lead 612, after which they interviewed their selections to make sure they wanted to take the position.

At today’s meeting, 612 announced the three members that will lead next year’s Robotics team. First of all, 612’s Chief Business Officer Jason K. leads the team’s finances, ensuring that the team continues to find sponsors and fund the team. Secondly, Chief Technical Officer Ben C. will teach future 612 students about essential technical information for each subteam, as well as coordinating the design, manufacturing, and testing of next year’s robot. Finally, Chief Executive Officer Veronica S. works to bring both students and mentors together, ensuring that everyone shares a common understanding on the team plan to build the robot.

With the lack of parent volunteers, Team 612 is changing to become a smaller, dedicated team of members. The team’s leadership and mentors decided to combine the roles of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Marketing Officer into one role: Chief Business Officer. The team’s newest CBO, Jason K., will need to handle both marketing the team and promoting to sponsors. In addition, the team combined the duties of the past Chief Operating Officer with the future Chief Technical Officer. 612’s CTO Ben C. will need to combine the past CTO’s focus on Electrical and Programming with the COO’s focus on Mechanical, ensuring that all aspects of 612 work together to build the robot. With more challenges come more opportunities, and Team 612 moves forward with new leadership to guide the team into a brighter future.
