Overview: FRC 612 remains productive, undeterred by challenging weather conditions
JANUARY 11TH, 2025, CHANTILLY, VA. Despite a week of weather-related disruptions, Team 612 remained focused on designing their robot for the upcoming robotics competition.
Monday’s snow storm covered all of Fairfax County forcing all public schools to cancel their activities until Thursday. However, the design team met virtually throughout the week to brainstorm ideas for the robot. The team carefully considered the game rules, the team’s overall strategy, and how other teams designed their robots in three days. They came up with the ideas for the robot’s payload system, specialties, and the chassis.
On Friday, the design team presented their ideas to the rest of the team, including mentors and leaders. Team members were excited to see what the design team had come up with and asked lots of questions. The design team was happy to share their ideas and answer everyone’s questions. At the end of the meeting, everyone agreed that the final design was excellent. To ensure progress despite potential snow cancellations, mentor Mr. David Schneider offered the use of his workshop on Saturday. Although the snow did not cancel the Saturday meeting, it was delayed by an hour. Thanks to these virtual meetings, the team had not lost as much time as they would have.
The team’s dedication and resilience allowed them to overcome challenges and make significant progress on their robot design.
