Overview: The mechanical subteam of Chantilly Robotics is hard at work, constructing durable bumpers for protecting the robot.
CHANTILLY, VA, FEBRUARY 15TH, 2025. Team 612’s mechanical subteam is constructing protective bumpers for this season’s competition robot, ensuring durability and compliance with FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) regulations. These bumpers serve as a critical layer of defense, safeguarding the robot from collisions while prominently displaying Team 612’s number and the FRC logo.
The fabrication process involves cutting and shaping fabric, then using a heat press iron to imprint the team number and FRC logo onto the cloth. Once prepared, the fabric is wrapped tightly around the bumper frame, ensuring a secure and professional finish. "Creating bumpers requires precision and attention to detail," said William Wagner, a Mechanical member. "They not only protect the robot but also give it a polished look on the field."
Beyond protection, bumpers play a strategic role by helping referees and alliance partners quickly identify robots during matches. The mechanical sub team's efforts ensure that Team 612’s bumpers meet the necessary safety and aesthetic standards, bringing the team one step closer to competition readiness.
